Full Moon in Libra
What’s the weather? Well, Pluto has moved into Aquarius after being in Capricorn since 2008. Saturn has moved into Pisces after being in Aquarius since 2020. And Mars has moved into Cancer after being retrograde in Gemini for six interminable months.
Moments like this are a perfect gateway into astrology mostly because it doesn’t matter if you know what retrograde, Saturn, Pluto, Mars, Gemini, Cancer, Capricorn, Aquarius, Pisces or any of the rest of it “mean.” Just like the weather, you can feel it. The way that things that have been stuck for what feels like forever are suddenly unstuck? Things aren’t necessarily better (they might even be worse!) but you can feel them moving, right?
Ok then, let’s do a little astrology:
On the Spring Equinox the Sun and the Moon moved into Aries — a New Moon in the first degree of the first sign of the Zodiac. Happy Astro New Year!
One way to think of the Sun and the Moon are as ways of seeing. The first opticians thought that the way that vision worked was that the right eye (ruled by the Sun) emanates rays that bounced off of objects that were then received by the left eye (ruled by the Moon). The New Moon then represents new beginnings in the sense that our Vision is Aligned — we can quite literally see the way forward.
As the receptive vessel, the Moon is also related to our experience of the world. Whether we are conscious of it or not, as the Moon get ever larger in the night sky whatever began at the New Moon blossoms and grows until the Moon is full. Often this looks like a culmination of whatever was initiated at the New Moon. For example, if you started looking for a job at the New Moon, you might have an interview for a job you really want at the Full Moon. In this way, our Vision gives way to our Experience.
And so, as the ground underneath us all has finally started to shift, the New Moon at the beginning of Aries gave us confidence that we could find our way forward. Libra, on the other hand, is the opposite sign from Aries and today’s Full Moon is right in the middle of Libra. The midpoint of a sign is that place that is most opposed to its opposite. There’s a tension here that is not irreconcilable but refuses to be ignored.
Aries and Libra are signs that are about freedom of movement. Aries (where the Sun is especially strong) knows that the best way to get where you’re going is to Go, Now. Libra (where the Moon is out of her element) knows that the way through is always Other People. With everything on such shaky ground, today’s Full Moon in Libra has us looking at the security of our commitments and the he ways that our most important relationships facilitate and/or hinder our forward momentum.
This Full Moon is particularly important because we will have another New Moon in Aries in a couple of weeks and this time it will be an eclipse! We’ll talk about that more on the next go round, but for now just know that the things that are happening now are setting the tone for the next couple of years. It’s worth reflecting on the past couple of weeks and paying attention over the next couple, especially in the places where our will makes hard contact with the people we love most.
{Below are horoscopes to guide you through this new terrain. Read for your sun, Moon or RISING SIGN.}
CANCER
In forging the way forward in your career or public life, a million little things have needed your attention and it’s been difficult to prioritize. This may have taken toll on your health or just put your patience on a hair trigger. Home is where the heart is. Recharge your batteries by daydreaming out loud about the future. Make something that represents your goals and put it on the wall. Talk to your partner (or roommates or parents or pets or whatever) about where you’re headed and why. See what comes up.
LEO
This is a lovely time of the year isn’t it? The Sun is exalted, your light shines bright, things just kinda make sense. And that’s when the doubt seeps in. Can I really do it? Is this really the way? Does this actually make sense? There’s only one way to find out. Big ideas are absolutely necessary but the movement starts in your own backyard. Communicating your vision to the people you need to help you bring it to life is the only way forward.
VIRGO
The past couple of weeks may have felt as if you are being pulled into the spotlight against your will. The opportunities that are presenting themselves are less about what you can do and more about what you have done and there’s nothing to do but sit back and wait while your future hangs in the balance. Let someone else take the reigns for a while. This isn’t giving up control. This is trusting that living up to your values will pay off in the long run and that you have chosen well the people that you rely on. The one you need to believe in is you.
LIBRA
An important new relationship has started that speaks loudly to how you are seen in the world. Perhaps it has been refreshing to have your assumptions about the way the world works shaken up but living out those newfound ideals out in public is a trickier proposition. Are you in or out? That probably depends on the extent to which you feel represented in this partnership. Now is the time to make sure you are on the same page about where things are headed.
SCORPIO
While it may seem as if there is much work to be done, the reality is there is much maintenance that needs seeing to. This might feel tedious as your mind is pulled toward loftier visions for the future but it is worth remembering that when you make time to care for yourself everything else tends to fall into place. The work you want to be doing will be here soon enough so get your ducks in a row now. And don’t be afraid to let ‘em see you sweat. It’s how you let people know you care.
SAGITTARIUS
The creative projects that have been gestating for quite some time are finally finding their way into the world which makes you feel more vulnerable that you would like to admit. In a sense (and perhaps literally!), you have given birth to a living thing. And just like you, it demands a certain amount of freedom. The way forward is in being responsive to it’s whims, whether you understand them or not and follow the path that is opening wherever it may lead. The two of you are in this together.
CAPRICORN
A significant amount of energy has been building up at home that might be overwhelming if it isn’t able to find an outlet. Yes, it is time to get out there, shake hands and kiss babies. But the engine that feeds the machine is at home. Boundaries are liable to get a little fuzzy when we’re having fun so pay attention to the places where you might be giving a little too much. The people closest to you can only support you if they know what you’re up to. A little over-communication never hurt anybody.
AQUARIUS
You may feel some newfound lightness, positively bursting with ideas and raring to go. Having to decide where to begin is enough to stop you in your tracks. You have a lot to say because you’ve been quiet for so long. The question isn’t what to say first but what NEEDS to be said? Do what you do best: Stand firm in your perspective and ZOOM OUT. What do you see? Write a manifesto and write it from your heart. Then live it out.
PISCES
Things feel a bit heavy these days. You feel like you need to come up for air but the water is thicker the closer you get to the surface. Your desire is a deep ocean volcano ready to burst and build the islands that you’ll call home. As you follow that inner flame where it leads you are faced with exactly what is necessary to keep it burning. You may have to make some difficult decisions about what you can live with and what you absolutely cannot.
ARIES
What a time to be alive! There has been no shortage of fires to put out over the past several months but the way forward is clearer than ever. Where things may get complicated is the way your roles might be changing at home or in your family and the tensions that inevitably surface as a result. Even if things are changing for the better, they are changing and change is hard. Be careful not to throw your weight around and make room for the feelings of the people closest to you.
TAURUS
For the past few years you have felt very acutely (and responded gamely!) to the weight of the world on your shoulders. You may have found yourself wondering how much more you can take. You’re about to find out. It may feel like all the game pieces have suddenly been swept off the board but now is not the time to scramble. The opportunity is for you to turn toward what you actually want to be doing. You survived the worst! Don’t settle! Your community has been there all along waiting to support you when you are ready to step into your power. Show ‘em what you got.
GEMINI
Your pockets might be taking a second to catch up to your dreams which has a way of making things feel stagnant. And when things are stagnant you feel irritable. It’s worth remembering what those big dreams are ultimately for: fun, friendship, connection and intimacy. So go after them! They don’t cost a thing and they remind you that it’s all worth it.
